We are very pleased to present John Armleder in our exhibition space Mellemrummet.

John Armleder is one of the most influential conceptual artists of our time and his eclectic production covers the fields of art, design, concept, geometry, Pop and Trash. Rooted in Fluxus, with strong references to DADA, Armleder works in diverse media such as sculptures, paintings, drawings, happenings, installations and video, and he persistently plays with connotations to art history in a reinvestigation of the concept of art per se.

Viewing the exhibition as an independent media in and of itself, Armleder typically stages the gallery or museum space by creating odd couples between genres. He thereby challenges the art world’s rigid and fixed categorization and allows the works to exist within their own aesthetic space.

For our presentation in Mellemrummet, we will show the two large-scale paintingsCimicifuga americana and Cimicifuga cordifolia from 2008 hung tightly together. Reminiscent of the gestural drip-paintings of American artist Larry Poons, Armleder utilizes chance as a determining factor by pouring a variety of substances, such as varnishes, paints, solvents, decorating materials, etc., onto his canvases, and the ’drip paintings’ are indebted equally to process and abstraction.
