Euphoria Now is an ongoing series of paintings based on colour schemes of global currencies. Starting in 2016 with the seven colours of the euro notes. The paintings now exists in several versions to mark the many different currencies and economies that constitute our global market. To mention a few : Euro, US Dollars, Chinese Yuan, Singapore Dollars, Pound Sterling and Austrailian Dollars.

The conceptual starting point for the Euphoria Now paintings was the discovery of Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville’s Dream Machine (1958/95). By looking at a series of flickering lights various colour patterns would appear and create a hypnagogic hallucination - supposedly encouraging artistic production. By directly referring to the colours of currencies, SUPERFLEX transferred the concept of the dream machine into contemporary society’s greatest hypnagogic hallucination of all: money.

In 2017 SUPERFLEX opened the large-scale installation One Two Three Swing! at Tate Modern’s renowned Turbine Hall. The interactive installation was to be experienced in three states: apathy, production and movement. The state of apathy comprised a large pendulum swinging above a 770 square metre carpet in a colour scheme based on the British Pound. The stripes of the carpet echoed the colours of the British banknotes and SUPERFLEX hereby referred directly to the idea behind the Euphoria Now series: global capitalism as a hypnagogic hallucination.

One Two Three Swing! is currently on show at Copenhagen Contemporary / CC where the stripes of the carpet echoes the colours of the Euro banknotes. The exhibition continues to 30.20.2018.

SUPERFLEX was founded in 1993 by Jakob Fenger, Bjørnstjerne Christiansen and Rasmus Nielsen. With a diverse and complex practice, SUPERFLEX challenges the role of the artist in contemporary society and explores the nature of globalisation and systems of power. SUPERFLEX has gained international recognition for projects and solo exhibitions around the world, including The Turbine Hall, TATE Modern London, Kunsthalle Basel, Basel; the Mori Museum, Tokyo; Van AbbeMuseum, Eindhoven; South London Gallery, London and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. The group has participated in international biennials such as the Gwangju Biennale, Istanbul Biennial, São Paulo Biennial, Shanghai Biennial, and in the Utopia Station at the Venice Biennale. SUPERFLEX is represented in several public art institutions, such as MoMA, New York; Hirshhorn Museum, Washington; Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Copenhagen; The Hammer, Los Angeles; Kunsthaus Zurich, Zurich; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam and Colección Jumex, Mexico City.
