Tove Storch often works with the bed as metaphor and subject matter. The square is a central shape in the artist’s visual idiom, which is often oriented towards geometrical shapes, just as layers and systematic approaches are recurring elements in several works. The carefully planned and structured process fundamental to the making of the work constitutes an aesthetic feature as well as a feminist reveal of invisible work and an ultimate urge to create. Pieces of silk hang down in arch-like shapes, working in extension of each other. Together they take on an imposing, upright air, while the otherwise dense and heavy-handed symbolism of the bed has vanished here, taking flight in the light, keenly honed execution of the work. Production and poetry coincide exquisitely in Storch’s installation.
