A starting point for RAIN(BOW)MAKERS is Goethe’s theory of color. Through experiments with prisms, Goethe investigated how color appears at the boundaries between light and darkness. Rather than treating colour simply as a property of light, he was interested in the conditions through which colour becomes perceptible.

In RAIN(BOW)MAKERS, Lea Porsager arranges prisms in a vertical sequence of “chakra mills”, bringing Goethe’s optical experiments into relation with water mills, chakras, tarot and numerology. Each mill corresponds to an energy centre, connecting the refraction of light with ideas of circulation and transformation. Yet the mills remain still. Structures associated with movement and the generation of energy are suspended, while the prisms retain the potential to split light into colour.
