A living, animated shape poised somewhere between a spider-like centipede and a wet cloth hanging to dry. The work consists of more than 600 metal rods yielding to their own weight. The distance between the supporting metal bars causes the transverse ones to slump down. The resulting curve makes the heavy metal seem light. The clear references to weaving and handicrafts form a marked contrast to the immediate hardness and strength of the material.
Storch builds on the feminist tradition of the 1960s and shares a clear kinship with several of the artists of the period. The endeavour to blur and break down traditional work categories is a key trait, and while Storch’s art revolves around feminist themes, her works remain embedded in their own irrational and sensuous logic.Exhibitions
