Breuning works in a large range of media from photography, video, drawing and installation – common is the use of a shared visual language and mix symbols from the world of pop and the media with icons of high culture. Somewhere between humor and a seriousness, they make us aware of our consumerism, Western stereotypes and gender clichés and analyses the relationship between art and kitsch, reality and illusion, authenticity and artificiality.
For the past years Breuning has developed an increasing interest in large scale sculptures with an interested in the intensity of the production. The long duration of a project, the engineering, the choice of long lasting material, the communication and many other parts that makes both large scale and outdoor sculptures a goal for Breuning. Through out the past years Breuning has created large scale sculpture like FLOWER - a bouquet of four flowers in bright clear colors, pointing out in three directions with a huge red flower as the crown on the pieces. Other outdoor installation to be mentioned are Clouds in front of Central Park New York; Fondation Carmignac, Porquerolles, France; CASS Foundation, UK to a series of steel HEAD sculptures at Smithson Plaza, London, UK.
