What comes after certaintySeptember 17 – November 13, 2022
ÖREBRO KONSTHALL, Örebro, SÖrebro Konsthall presents What Comes After Certainty by Jone Kvie. In the work sharing its name with the exhibition, a raw piece of Carrara marble is crowned by a meteorically shaped onyx. Two parts of the same stone have been combined to reflect their own parallel-patterned texture. Marble is formed deep within the Earth's crust, while onyx emerges as a result of groundwater and spring water seeping into caves and cavities, dripping down from stalactites and stalagmites. It is said to carry healing properties, such as bringing calm and certainty in troubled times. The restrained sculptural landscape in What Comes After Certainty is composed of bronze, marble, concrete, and onyx. Through these heavy and enduring materials, Kvie creates physical manifestations akin to contemporary ruins—remnants of humanity’s various attempts to understand its place in the infinite universe.
The exhibition also includes an entirely new work in which Kvie has used locally quarried marble from Glanshammar. The sculpture is a reinterpretation of an ancient ruin in Rome and will become a permanent installation along Lilla Å after the exhibition concludes. Kvie was born in Stavanger, Norway, and is now based and active in Naples, Italy.
