EQUILIBRIO MÚLTIPLE, OBRAS / PROYECTOS 1968–2023

    June 7 - October 8 2023

Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes

For over five decades, Eduardo Terrazas has produced a remarkable body of work that encompasses architecture (his field of study), design, urban interventions, and painting, as well as a distinctive type of two-dimensional pieces made with yarn. From his role as Artistic Director and Coordinator of the Identity Program for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City to his series Possibilities of a Structure, his projects have stood out for their iconic nature. Moreover, they are united by a humanistic vocation.

Terrazas' work carries a sense of innovation that seeks to reconcile the local and traditional with modern, global art. His projects aim to foster socialization, reflect on various issues that pose risks to the development of human life on the planet, and, above all, emphasize that reality is a field of possibilities.

Eduardo Terrazas. Multiple Balance seeks to offer a broad perspective on his body of work, considering some urban-scale projects as well as various series of two-dimensional pieces, including works focused on the analysis and investigation of certain issues. Taken as a whole, Terrazas' work can be seen as a metaphor for questioning structures and systems of thought that are often taken for granted, seemingly ineffable, timeless, and unchangeable.

Notably, some of his works from the 1970s reexamined and proposed an alternative to the Western ideology of industrial progress and its consumer culture as the sole sources of well-being and individual fulfillment. However, the series that best represents this critical attitude is Possibilities of a Structure, produced over more than five decades. In this series, Terrazas has made endless changes, modulations, and variations to a central diagram.

The evolution of this series embodies the exercise of a creative and imaginative vision that constantly reaffirms the existence of possibilities and options.
