Our Normal LifeAugust 23 – October 19, 2024
Glentevej 49, CopenhagenOur Normal Life explores everydayness through the lens of societal demands, continuing Tania Pérez Córdova’s exploration of objects, their narratives, materiality, and temporality. The exhibition investigates how elements of daily life can embody significant acts within economic contexts. It explores the possibility of personal intimacy while questioning the standardization of the notion of normalcy in a global society. By juxtaposing ordinary gestures against the backdrop of an ecological crisis, the exhibition deepens our understanding of the relationship between objects and time.
In Our Normal Life, the sculptures take on the role of performers, each with a story to tell — stories that are both personally and politically charged. Blown glass captures the performative act of breathing; an industrially produced farming net serves as a screen, displaying remnants of private documents and information; a bronze contour, formed by dripping metal onto sand, evokes the fragmented memory of an architectural space; a bundle of emotionally charged textile waste resembles the shape of a brain or a seed. These objects reimagine body parts, with their materials carrying the stories they’ve accumulated.
Through these references to the world beyond the sculptures, the exhibition evokes a vivid sense of time and space that extends beyond the gallery. With Our Normal Life, Pérez Córdova seeks to broaden the relationship between artwork and viewer, encompassing external places, people, and actions, situating the works within a larger narrative that is both personal and collective.
