    GLENTEVEJ 49 · Copenhagen

We are launching focus26, a year-long format in which our gallery at Glentevej 49 unfolds as a dynamic, modular space. Rather than following fixed exhibition cycles, new and earlier artworks will be shown through continuously evolving presentations.

The project responds to the speed and constant turnover of the contemporary art world. By creating space beyond the demand for newness,
focus26 proposes a reorientation of attention toward sustained artistic practices and representation, providing a frame for dialogue and reflection.

Alongside the presentations, a program of events will encourage dialogue between artists, collectors, curators, audiences, and the gallery, contributing to the broader conversation around contemporary art.

With focus26, the gallery continues its commitment to presenting conceptually grounded artists in a global context, while working to create new opportunities and meaningful exposure, both locally and internationally.

In parallel, the gallery will present four exhibitions at our space at Holbergsgade 19 featuring artists who have not previously exhibited with the gallery. These exhibitions further open the program to new perspectives.

COMMENT BY GALLERY OWNER NILS STÆRK:

Since opening the gallery in 1997, the art world has undergone significant changes, both globally and in Denmark.

In recent years, opportunities to experience art have expanded dramatically, and we are constantly met with new impressions through social media, newsletters, art fairs, and exhibitions.

I find that the demand to continuously present something new has become dominant, while deeper engagement with individual works and artistic practices is often pushed into the background. I have always valued working in a way that responds to what feels relevant, allowing the time and focus each project requires, without being bound to a fixed agenda.

With focus26, I hope to rediscover this sense of freedom while creating space for more concentrated engagement with individual works and artistic practices. For this reason, we have chosen not to present traditional exhibitions at Glentevej in 2026, instead using the space for ongoing presentations of works that we believe deserve and require special focus.

At the same time, I remain committed to developing the gallery. At our exhibition space on Holbergsgade, we will present four exhibitions with artists we have not previously collaborated with.

The program will be curated by our two gallery directors Valeria Knoflach and Josefine Juliane Wiell.
