Throughout history, marble has symbolized power, status, and beauty. It is also synonymous with Kunsten, whose building will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022. To mark the occasion, the museum will present a diverse array of marble works created by some of history’s most renowned artists.
SUPERFLEX’s contributions, Interspecies Assembly and Vertical Migration, focus on humanity’s dependence on and obligation to collaborate with other species on our planet.
Jone Kvie presents the work what comes after certainty, which features a heavy marble block with an hourglass-like figure carved from onyx. Classical sculpture traditions of the ancient world were formed around marble and onyx.
The exhibition MARMOR highlights how the material is processed, understood, and interpreted in contemporary art, as well as the significance of marble as a medium in conveying the content and message of a work of art. It will be on view through August 21, 2022.
