Saturday, August 23, 2025, marks the official inauguration of The Ship, a monumental new public artwork in Copenhagen by Tove Storch.
Seventeen meters long and cast in concrete, The Ship marks Enghavevej as a place of passage and return. Its red, ship-like form is both vessel and droplet – a paradox that would sink at sea, yet here sails across the grass alongside the cars. For pedestrians, it offers a slower, more reflective encounter.
Enghavevej follows the old coastline that existed here before urban development accelerated and gives its name to the Bavnehøj neighborhood, where signal fires were once lit to guide passing ships. The Ship becomes a landmark for both local residents and everyone traveling in and out of the city via Enghavevej. At the same time, The Ship stands out as one of Copenhagen’s largest public artworks created by a female artist.
