Objects are amongst us all the time, projecting orders and directions through their usability and physical presence. We navigate through objects – around them, with them, and according to the possibilities they offer.

The presentation by FOS presents a collection of sculptural pieces, including five lamps and two spice shelves, that draw upon the familiar language of domestic design. Their references are ordinary and functional: lamps that illuminate and orient, shelves that organize and hold. Yet these objects shift between practical function and sculptural form, making it difficult to determine where one ends and the other begins.

The two spice shelves take the everyday act of organizing spices as their point of departure. The titles, Lea & Perrins and O.K pepe verde, refer to the spices or condiments they hold, establishing a relationship between language, object, and use. What might initially appear as simple information becomes part of the work itself, inviting us to consider how objects communicate and how we read the environments around us.

The five Wayfinder lamps similarly operate between function and decoration. They combine practical considerations with an ornamental presence, balancing the need to illuminate with the desire to mark, frame, and shape a space. Their forms suggest that even the most functional objects can carry directions and instructions – not only through what they do, but through how they occupy space.

These sculptures disguise themselves as design objects, forcing the pieces to be viewed from a dual perspective, caught in an in-between status. They are at once useful and decorative, familiar and strange, domestic and sculptural. By adopting the visual language of everyday objects, they make visible the systems of information and behavior embedded within them.
