PAUL FÄGERSKIÖLD
Born in Stockholm, SE, 1982
Lives and works in Stockholm, SEPaul Fägerskiöld develops paintings that investigate the fundamental conditions of painting through surface, materiality, and perception. Engaging landscape as both subject and process in a time shaped by climate impact and ecological change, his works do not depict nature but operate as it – layered, unstable, and in formation. Drawing on reduced forms from nature and the cosmos, as well as imagery from a personal archive, his large-scale, often monochrome paintings are structured by symbols and historical references that form an evolving visual lexicon. His practice rejects illusion and narrative, instead emphasizing dense, tactile surfaces where color remains shifting and relational, revealing underlying strata of pigment and linen.
Fägerskiöld lives and works in Stockholm and was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at institutions such as Kunstmuseum Thun and Borås Art Museum, and is held in collections including Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Public Art Agency Sweden, and Malmö Art Museum.
