Rebecca Lindsmyr’s works trace unstable borders between expression, language, and subjectivity through a suggestive entanglement of power plays and symbolic structures. Contemplating moments where meaning is lost as soon as it slips into form, they imply a destabilization of form that unfolds through repetition, translation, and interruption.

In manage your password safely, this form of scattering points to the attempt to maintain a personal symbolic system. Managing passwords – repeating them, changing them at precise intervals, juggling your own secret symbolic marks – has become an incessant part of the lives of each and every one of us. Capturing this sense of displacement and exhaustion, the work contains the digital processing of a handmade mark, repeatedly performed via screen printing. Its rasterization proposes a loss of information; a loss recurring in the construction of the work. Made through repeated layering, where parts of the surface have been blocked, the painting suggests an inability to perform as image or complete surface.

The work connects to Lindsmyr’s ongoing contemplations on the implications of the expressive mark and the reconfigurations of subjectivity, filtered through a process-oriented painterly approach.
