    INGVAR CRONHAMMAR

    1947 – 2021, born in Hässleholm, SE
Lived and worked in Herning, DK

Ingvar Cronhammar’s works place themselves in the field between architecture, art, and design. Cronhammer’s work reveals a fascination of the industrial, and throughout the creation process the possibilities of technology are utilized to its full potential. His educational background as a sculptor is expressed in his monumental and often large-scale sculptural installations. A certain futuristic appearance combined with an overall classicistic architectural approach is characteristic for Cronhammar’s works. Throughout his career, Cronhammar has put a significant mark on the Danish public art landscape with his monumental sculptural installations, such as ELIA outside of Herning.

Parallel to Cronhammar’s public sculptures, he rethinks well-known everyday objects and thereby questions the border between art and design. Consistent for his practice is a continuing fascination for industrial aesthetics using materials such as iron, steel and brass. Solo shows of Cronhammar’s works include HEART, Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, DK; Cisternerne, DK; AroS - Aarhus Art Museum, DK; SMK – National Gallery of Denmark, DK; Traphold Museum of Modern Art and Design, DK among others. Group shows of his works include: POLITIKENS Hus (POLITIKENS forhal), DK; Kunstforeningen Gl. Strand, DK; Den Frie – Centre of Contemporary Art, DK and Charlottenborg, DK among others.
