Nils Stærk is pleased to announce the representation of Gert & Uwe Tobias (b.1973, Rumania)
The Romanian-German artist duo is collaborators and twin brothers working with a diverse body of work, embracing multiple media such as painting, collage, typewriter drawings, ceramics and their famous large-scale woodcuts, all of them displaying vibrant color and strong graphic compositions. Drawing upon a diverse sources as popular culture, art historical movements and traditional Eastern European folk art, the Tobias brothers create a body of work that is both playful and evocative.
In both their woodcuts and typewriter drawings, traditional handcrafting is given a twist and put though the filter of the twenty-first century where music icons and folk myths reveal themselves from the layers of patterned paint and form the individual characters of an old typewriter machine.
